Escape the city and enter McGregor

If you feel like escaping the busy city life and in need of a calm relaxing weekend away, then you are in need of a McGregor weekend.

Our desire for a weekend away led us to McGregor, as we were on the hunt for pet-friendly accommodation with our fur baby, Sasha.

It was early August and we had both our birthdays to celebrate so a family weekend getaway was just what we needed.

We’ve never been to McGregor so adventure awaits.

We left Cape Town late in the afternoon, so by the time we entered McGregor it was dark, but our host at Sunflower Cottage welcomed us with a cosy warmed up cottage.

As we could not see much of our surroundings, we unpacked and enjoyed dinner in front of the fire.

Sunflower Cottage is beautifully decorated and offer everything you need with a super comfy bed and soft linen.

The next morning we could hardly wait to go and explore, and boy oh boy it did not disappoint.

Comfortable walking shoes are essential as the town of McGregor is small enough to walk easily from one side to the other.

Mcgregor is a pet-friendly town, so feel free to take your fur baby along.

More Pet-friendly accommodation:

There are plenty of walking trails to give your four-legged friend some good exercise and lovely pet-friendly restaurants to refuel.

Rhebokskraal Olyf Kombuis and Farm Stall offer a beautiful selection of olives to taste with a delightful and interesting menu in a relaxing atmosphere.

Deli Girls Bistro and Deli specialize in home-cooking, meals include breakfast, light lunch, cake and home-made soups.

On Saturday mornings you can brows through various home-made goodies at the local market which last for only an hour, so get up early. It start at 8.00 am. The stalls include breads, jams, pastries, organic produce, books and plants.

The main road of McGregor is short, but filled with cute shops, art galleries and restaurants.

Our favorite find is Lords Winery. If you follow the road to nowhere from the village of McGregor, high up on the mountain slopes you’ll discover the home of Lord’s Wines.

Lovely visit to Lord’s Winery.

With the beautiful mountains views you can sit back and relax and enjoy their selection of wines. We can highly recommend the Lord’s MCC Brut.

Plenty of events happen in McGregor through out the year so have a look at McGregor Events for those dates before you book your stay.

Our visit to McGregor was definitely good for the soul and we highly recommend it.

We will be back soon so watch this space for an update.

Now go and book your stay, you won’t be disappointed.

Safe travels
